At 18%abv, World Wide Stout by Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales is the strongest beer we've ever had on tap at Neighborhood. World Wide Stout pours black and has a deep, dark roasted malts nose; chocolate, dark fruits, and molasses are present. You might be surprised by how smooth, creamy and drinkable this double American/Imperial stout is, despite its high alcohol content. Sip and enjoy this special craft from one of our favorite breweries in the country.
Bashah is a 'Black Belgian style double IPA,' and frankly, we wouldn't expect any less from 2 craft brewers whose ales appeal to arrogant bastards and punks. In their latest collaboration, Stone Brewing Company and BrewDog concocted this 8.6% ale that has a near black pour, its nose distinctively Stone-y with a robust hop bouquet. Roasted malts are the dominant flavor that gives way to citrusy, then sweet notes, and of course a Belgian yeast presence. A dynamic hybrid with lots of flavors in every sip, give Bashah a try at Neighborhood while our cooler is stocked.
We're excited to pour Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales' collaboration beer 'Life and Limb' this Friday, December 19th. The American Strong Ale (10.2%abv) was released in November on a limited basis. Get it while you can.
Life and Limb pours black and has a nose that's yeasty, hoppy and alcoholy. Brewed with pure maple syrup from the Calagione family farm and bottle conditioned with Birch syrup from Alaska, it is sweet, but balanced with bitter hops and roasty chocolate malts.
According to Dogfish Head's website, 'Life & Limb is dedicated to the family of beer drinkers and enthusiasts worldwide who continue to support the little guys, iconoclasts, entrepreneurs, and pioneers who risk life and limb to shape the vibrant craft-brewing community.'
Samuel Adams produces the strongest beer on the market, Utopias, at 27%abv. Although it's banned in 13 states (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia,
Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South
Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington) because its alcohol content exceeds the limit for beer, we've got a supply at Neighborhood.
Only 10,000 bottles were released of Utopias, which ages for 15 years in scotch whiskey barrels, and sherry casks at Boston Beer Company. Utopias tastes like bourbon, or even cognac, with vanilla, maple and fruit flavors (prunes and dates).
Drink this rare beer while we have it, and don't drive home.
'Tis always the season to drink good beer, but especially this December at Neighborhood. We’ve decked our taps with 7 holiday ales that will bring joy to your palate, selection as follows:
'Yulesmith'
Alesmith
Alesmith's twice annual holiday ale. The winter version of Yulesmith is an Imperial Red Ale (9.5%ABV), less hoppy than the summer variety, and more balanced out with a deep malty base. A bold yet balanced Christmas brew.
'Santa's Little Helper'
Port Brewing
The naughty elf of Christmas style ales pours black with a tan head. This Russian Imperial Stout at 9.5%ABV tastes of bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Slight alcohol finish that’ll keep you warm on a December night.
'Two Turtle Doves'
The Bruery
The complexity of this beer makes it difficult to classify. At first taste, tart fruit overcomes your palate, followed by the smooth chocolate flavor you’d expect from an imperial porter. A warm finish makes this Belgian strong an excellent winter beer at 12%.
'Gift of the Magi' The Lost Abbey
Belgian strong, dark ale without the alcohol-y taste. Pours deep, dark red with hints of cherries, prune and ginger spice. A very balanced dark Belgian that’s smooth, and drinkable.
'Samichlaus'
Helles
This doppelbock is not for the faint of palate. Very sweet and rich in prune flavor, not what you'd expect from a golden colored ale. Cognac, toffee and candy flavors. Sip slowly at 14%ABV.
'Noel'
Affigem
Belgian strong, dark ale, but lighter than most on this list. At 9%ABV it’s sweet and malty right away, followed by spice and hints of plum and dates. Funky Belgian finish.
'Christmas Ale'
St. Bernardus
Slightly sweet, yeasty and spicy at first, this Belgian strong pale ale finishes bitter. A complex Belgian (9.5%ABV) that is truly a pale ale hybrid. Nice and dry, drinkable.
